With the weather growing milder, it’s time for jazz to move outdoors. All our great clubs and concert venues are still supporting the scene; but you can also enjoy some great music al fresco in the coming
months.
Here’s a few ideas:
Holy-Field Winery in Basehor, KS
Way out in western Wyandotte County, in fact just over the county line in Leavenworth County, this charming vineyard has a laid-back atmosphere that mixes perfectly with the vintages they grow, and bottle on site. This award-winning winery’s Summertime Music Series is in its 22nd season this year, and features live music each Friday evening at 6:30pm-9:30pm, May 20 thru August 13.
In July, Holy-Field hosts the James Ward Band www.thejwb.com on July 8. You can hear some of our area’s top young talent, in a jazz ensemble led by pianist Parker Woolworth the following Friday, July 15. They call this young Downbeat award-winning jazz fusion ensemble Luck 20. https://www.facebook.com/search/top?q=luck%2020
Strings on the Green
Everyone knows Chaz on the Plaza for their tasty food and drink, and for the intimate jazz room. But, come summertime, they also host a series of outdoor gigs from 5pm to 8pm, on the hotel’s elegant fully shaded urban courtyard.
They have plenty of jazz, including Jesica Poell’s Baby J Quartet www.babyjjazz.com on June 8, the Jackie Myers Duo www.jackiemyersmusic.com June 9, continuing the following Wednesday, June 15 with Eboni Fondren, https://www.facebook.com/ebonifondrenmusic/
Pianist Matt Villinger https://www.instagram.com/mattvillinger/?hl=enis on the green on June 22. There’s more to come, with appearances by Sons of Brasil https://thesonsofbrasil.com/ and Grand Marquis http://www.grandmarquis.net/ expected in July and August. Chaz on the Plaza 325 Ward Parkway.
Summer Concert Series at Ward Parkway Center
At the south end of Ward Parkway Center, just off State Line, you’ll find Charleston’s,
Torchy’s Tacos and other interesting eateries, all surrounding a pleasant outdoor venue that plays host to a wide variety of music.
There are shows throughout the summer including the Stan Kessler and Roger Wilder Duohttps://www.facebook.com/sharer.php?u=https%3A%2F%2Fstantonkessler.com%2F&t=Home
on July 23, and Jazzy Jazz Miyagi https://www.facebook.com/jazzy.jazz.925 on September 3, and a whole lot more. The music happens from 7pm to 9pm on Saturday nights.
