Deborah Brown Present Blues Treasure Janice (Jan) Harrington

Thursday, March 23, 8:00 pm

On the website of Janice (Jan) Harrington you will see clips of the vivacious octogenarian belting out Big Mama Thornton’s, “You Ain’t Nothing But A Hound Dog,” The video clips were taken from the senior version of The Voice. You may say, “senior version?”

Janice makes her home in Germany. And on German TV, they have a “senior version” of the popular television program, The Voice. Janice did well . . . and did not take top honors.

However Ms. Harrington has many albums to her credit, including the Dinah Washington tribute album “Yesterday Today Tomorrow”, featuring the giants of jazz : Keter Betts, Lloyd Mayers, and drummer Jimmy Cobb.

This will be the first time either of these marvelous vocalists, Janice Harrington and Deborah Brown have performed at Knuckleheads. This is the absolute perfect venue for this show.

Tickets & Information

The ladies have assembled the best of bands. It’s a group that played at 18th and Vine for Jay McShann’s Birthday Bash this past January 16th, The band consists of 3 very popular and well documented local musicians, Charles Williams is at the piano, Gerald Spaits on bass, and drummer John Kizilarmut. (kizz-ill-or-moot)

Notable guitarist Rod Fleeman will be featured on guitar. Rod travels regularly with 3 Grammy nominated singers; pianists & vocalists Karrin Allyson & Diane Schuur, and the marvelous Marilyn Maye. A year or so ago, Rod and Marilyn were featured on CBS Sunday Morning together.

When he has a free weekend in town, Rod plays the Saturday afternoon slot at the Green Lady Lounge. This regular local gig has brought the veteran musician to finally release his first recording under his own name. There’s a couple of original tunes and whole lot of blues on the 2022 Jazz Daddy release, “Saturday Afternoon at the Green Lady Lounge”. A second release of more Saturday afternoon recordings is planned for spring.

Fleeman is right at home with the blues, in the style of Herb Ellis and Charlie Christian. His blues drenched release is on sale at The Green Lady Lounge and Knuckleheads Saloon. It’s an evening of jazz meets blues fun at Knuckleheads, where the world’s greatest musicians play!
