Johnson County Community College (JCCC) invites jazz fans to learn more about noted jazz guitarist Pat Metheny on Thursday, February 17, noon to 1:00 p.m. in Polsky Theatre in the Midwest Trust Center.
Researcher Carolyn Glenn Brewer will present a free program on her findings on Metheny’s early years in the Kansas City area. The event will feature a local jazz trio illustrating some of the influences on Metheny’s development.
Brewer’s book Beneath Missouri Skies: Pat Metheny in Kansas City 1964-1972 looks at his early years in the Lee Summit High School band and his collaboration with other young jazz players in the area. The book will be available for purchase at the event.
Guitarist Rob Whitsitt, bassist Tim Brewer and drummer Mike Warren will join Brewer on the Polsky stage for the program.
The free event is open to the public on a first-come, first-seated basis. The audience is expected to follow current JCCC Covid 19 precautions.
