Jazz Ambassador Meet Ups are Back!

After a long hiatus, KC Jazz Ambassadors begin a new season of social get-togethers on Friday, May 21 at Holy-Field Winery in Basehor, KS. City Light Orchestra takes the outdoor stage from 6:30 to 9:30. Masks are required; and there are acres and acres of room for social distancing.

“We’re pleased to get back to live performance with this Meet Up and outdoor jazz concert at Holy-Field,” noted Jazz Ambassador board member Lynn Abrams. “It’s been way too long. Thankfully, with people getting vaccinated and maintaining C.D.C. protocols, this should be the first of many Meet Ups to come.”

The City Light Orchestra has been around for decades. The 2021 iteration features David Basse on drums, Greg Richter on keyboards, Joseph Straws Jr on bass, Nate Nall on trumpet, Jason Goudeau on trombone and Todd Wilkinson on sax and flutes. Basse, Richter and Straws supply the vocals.

“It’s one of our best ensembles ever, with a real big band feel,” shared Basse. “And outdoors, on the lawn at Holy-Field is the perfect place to enjoy it.”

Holy-Field Winery is located 18807 158th St in Basehor, KS. Tickets to the Meet Up are $7 per person; children under twelve get in free. No outside beverages—come for the music and enjoy the great wine produced by the Holy-Field vintners.

Food Truck provided by The Mad Greek in Lawrence. Patrons are welcomed to bring a picnic.
