Future of Jazz Concert Series Concludes with UMKC Ensemble

KC Jazz Ambassadors’ Future of Jazz series winds up its 2022-23 season with two sets featuring UMKC’s renowned Jazz Ensemble under the direction of Carl Allen.

Wednesday, April 12 at 7pm the music gets going at Johnnie’s Jazz Club, in the B&B Theater complex at 14th and Main in downtown Kansas City. There is no cover charge at

Johnnie’s: restaurant and full bar services are available.

“Our Tommy Ruskin Scholarships are the centerpiece of the Jazz Ambassadors’ programming each year,” commented KCJA board member Linda McShann. “These Future of Jazz concerts expand our commitment to the next generation of musicians by engaging directly with the many fine jazz programs in area colleges and universities.”

“Jazz Ambassadors have contributed $3,000 to the scholarship programs at area universities this season alone,” continued KCJA board member Mark Edelman. “These talented students have gotten a first taste of playing gigs in the community. Hopefully, they’ll graduate and become essential parts of the flourishing Kansas City jazz scene.”

The KCJA Future of Jazz series is funded by Kansas City Jazz Ambassador members, who contribute through their annual dues to the organization’s scholarship and Musicians Assistance Fund. For information about the KC Jazz Ambassadors—including how to become a member—visit www.kcjazzambassadors.org
