Folly Theater’s 40th Annual Jazz Series

By Kelly Dougherty, Marketing Manager of the Folly Theater

While covid kept us from presenting the 39th Annual Jazz Series, we decided that the lineup was so good that we simply moved it forward into our 40th season. A “do-over” if you will! And we certainly missed the John Pizzarelli trio from our 38th season, so we’ve added his performance as a lagniappe (extra) to the upcoming season.

Starting in May, season tickets (pending city covid restrictions) will go on sale. If you were a season ticket holder from last season, the Folly box office will reach out to you regarding seating availability.

Here is this year’s 40th season:

September 17, 2021, 8 PM – John Pizzarelli Trio - World-renowned guitarist and vocalist, John Pizzarelli, pays tribute to Nat King Cole at the Folly Theater.

October 9, 2021, 8 PM – Karrin Allyson, a five-time GRAMMY® nominee, will light up the theater with her uplifting blend of vocal jazz.

December 10, 2021, 8 PM – David Benoit Christmas Tribute to Charlie Brown. American Jazz pianist, composer, and producer, Benoit has charted over 25 albums since 1980 and is a GRAMMY® nominee.

January 15, 2022, 8 PM – Jeff Lorber Fusion Trio – This GRAMMY® Award-winning keyboardist, composer, and producer, brings his funky, fusion jazz to the Folly Theater.

February 12, 2022, 8 PM - Anat Cohen Quartetinho - Ever charismatic, prolific, and inspired, GRAMMY®-nominated clarinetist-saxophonist performs with her quartet at the Folly.

March 12, 2022, 8 PM – Paquito D’Rivera Quintet – The Cuban born saxophonist & clarinetist and brought to the U.S. by Dizzy Gillespie. He is a 2005 NEA Jazz Master and the winner of fourteen GRAMMY® Awards.

April 16th, 2022, 8 PM – An Evening with Eliane Elias – This multi-GRAMMY® winning pianist/singer/composer closes out the 40th Folly Theater Jazz Series with her Bossa Nova style.

As always, a Jazz talk will precede the show starting at 6:30 PM. Come listen to some of the region’s experts on Jazz before the show

LIVE! From the Lounge Continues

The Folly is excited to continue this intimate, limited seating event. Supporting the area’s local artists while continuing the tradition of live music at the Folly, this event arose out of a need to give artists a safe outlet for their music while promoting the venue at the same time.

Most recently, Calvin Arsenia, Kian Byrne, and Connie Dover have performed. Those performances, along with other previous performances can be found on our YouTube channel. Simply look up the Folly Theater on YouTube to find them.

On May 6, the Folly will present Maria Cuevas from the band Maria the Mexican with her extraordinary talent. Maria is a vocalist and guitarist playing acoustic, electric, and traditional Mexican stringed instruments. Her sound is a blend –

Mexicana/Americana/Indie/Blues/Rock/Funk/Soul/Fusion

– a true hybrid of Mexican folklore and rock ’n roll delivered in both English and Spanish.

Video premiere May 20 on Facebook Live and YouTube Live

On June 24, Julia Haile from the band Hi-Lux will be wowing the audience in the Lounge. An accomplished vocalist with natural ability and training, Julia Haile’s career continues to expose listeners to multi-genre music. Whether it be through original works, collaborations, or expressing the passions of various songwriters, her talent and tone leave the listener feeling the music deeply.
