Dan Thomas Brings Ottawa U Jazz Studies Ensemble to Town

Next up for the Jazz Ambassadors’ Future of Jazz scholarship/internship series

is a talented quintet from Ottawa University under the direction of noted saxophonist,

composer and bandleader Dan Thomas. The April edition of the series happens Tuesday, April 12 from

7 to 9pm at Johnnie’s Jazz Club, 14th and Main in Downtown KC, MO. There is no cover charge; a full bar and food service, including $2 Taco Tuesdays, await hungry and thirsty jazz fans.

Located in Ottawa, KS.--just an hour southwest of KC—Ottawa U boasts a Jazz Studies program that leverages the historic roots of jazz music in the region, drawing on the talents of internationally respected jazz artists and teachers. Emphasis is on the 21st century skills necessary to have a career in the business of music.

Among those respected jazz artists and teachers is Ottawa Jazz Studies director Dan Thomas. Born in Canada, Dan came to the States in 93 and has been making great music ever since. A past executive director of the KC Jazz Orchestra, Dan has recorded with Bobby Watson, with whom he co-chaired the UMKC Jazz Studies program for a number of years.
