Winterlude March 19, 7:00 p.m. KC Jazz Disciples

The concept of a Jazz Winterlude has worked very well at Johnson County Community College. The series is a good respite from the winter blues, and it has been well attended by jazz fans. The 2022-2023 series, held at the Midwest Trust Center, will conclude on Sunday, March 19th at 7pm, in the Polsky Theater with a performance by KC Jazz Disciples.

Led by saxophonist Gerald Dunn, this quartet captures and captivates its audiences.Dunn plays an inventive, contemporary sound and knows how to capture an audience’s attention. He has been featured in bands with Illinois Jacquet and Bobby Watson.

The face of 18th and Vine has rarely looked—or sounded—better.” —The Pitch

Pianist Everett Freeman has toured with Oleta Adams and performs with a deliciously intricate, yet fluid, grace. There are few Kansas City jazz musicians whom drummer Michael Warren hasn’t backed, and bassist DeAndre Manning provides a solid footing to this group of seasoned local musicians. For this performance, the ensemble will be joined by special guest trumpeter Danny Campbell.

Masters of Percussion-Zakir Hussain

Yardley Hall April 1, 2023

For the past thirty years, Zakir Hussain has served as curator, conductor and producer for his series, Zakir Hussain and Masters of Percussion, which brings the very best of Indian music and world percussion to tour America and Europe.

All of it creates a truly beautiful field from which he can bring Masters of Percussion to the West. The 2023 version will be no exception, presenting American audiences with extraordinary, exciting and spontaneous combinations of percussive as well as melodic performances.

They play individually and together, and the results are unforgettable; 2023 will be no exception. It will feature Zakir Hussain, Sabir Khan, Tupac Mantilla, Melissa Hié, and Navin Sharma.
