Jazz Ambassadors Annual Meeting - Jam Awards Set for December 14

The KC Jazz Ambassadors will hold their annual meeting on Tuesday, December 14, 2021, at Johnnie’s Jazz Club, 14th and Main. Following the 6pm meeting, a student jazz combo from the UMKC Conservatory of Music will entertain, part of the KCJA "Future of Jazz” scholarship program. Between sets, the 2021 JAM Jazz Awards, honoring our town’s favorite jazz performers, clubs and venues, will be announced.

“This year, 2020, has been a bit of struggle, “commented Jazz Ambassadors president Mark Edelman. “But the clubs, the concert venues and most important the musicians got through it and are back in top---all be it cautious, socially-distanced—form. The first annual JAM Jazz awards will be 2021’s cherry on top.

The annual meeting, open to dues paying members of the Jazz Ambassadors, will begin at 6pm with election of officers. The music starts at 7pm—there is no cover charge at Johnnie’s and a full bar and restaurant menu. The awards, honoring KC’s favorite sax, bass, guitar, trombone, trumpet, etc. jazz musicians will be announced between sets of the UMKC jazz group.

“We’re hoping for a big crowd on Tuesday, December 14, to salute our favorite jazz musicians and the jazz community itself,” continued KCJA board member Lynn Abrams. “It’s a chance for everyone who loves jazz to share a drink and congratulate the nominees and the winners.

The KCJA Future of Jazz series is sponsored by members of the Jazz Ambassadors, who contribute thru their annual dues to the organization’s scholarship and Musicians Assistance Fund programs.
