2021 Jam Awards Kick Off Nominations in May

Updated: Mar 31, 2021

KC Jazz Ambassadors announce the 1st annual JAM Awards, celebrating our favorite Kansas City jazz musicians. Nominations for the 2021 “people’s choice”-style awards will begin May 1, when ballots and information will be posted at www.kcjazzambassadors.org.

“After all we’ve been through for the last year, it’s time to shine a spotlight on the great players that make KC one of the jazz capitals of the world,” explained KJCA president Mark Edelman.

“We hope this will become an annual event, when local jazz fans can honor their favorite artists with a JAM Award.”

Rather than a “Best Musician” competition, the KCJA JAM Awards will invite jazz fans to pick their favorite performer in a variety of categories, including Favorite Jazz Pianist, Vocalist, Trumpet, Sax, Trombone, Guitar, Bass, Drums, Percussion and more. “We hope to get enough nominations to break it down to favorite alto, tenor and bari/bass saxophones,” continued Edelman. “There’s certainly lots of talent in KC.

Beginning May 1, the KCJA website will invite jazz supporters to nominate their favorite jazz musicians. Those nominations will be collected and collated by September 1, when the ballot for the 2021 JAM Awards will be posted on the Jazz Ambassador website. A party to celebrate the winners will take place in December, to coincide with the KCJA annual meeting.

For more information, watch for details on the KCJA website at www.kcjazzambassadors.org.
