November Future of Jazz performance Features JCCC Ensemble November 9

Wednesday, November 9 brings more fresh new jazz faces to the KC Jazz Ambassador’s monthly concert series at Johnnie’s Jazz Club, 14th and Main Streets in downtown Kansas City. The shows are free, open to the public and feature some of the area’s finest young musical talent from 7-9pm, on the second Wednesday of each month during the school year.

Johnson County Community College’s Jazz Ensemble joins the scholarship program at Johnnie’s Jazz Club this month, with Ryan Heinlein, chairman of the music program at JCCC and a popular jazz trombonist and recording artist leading the group.

“We’re thrilled to have Ryan’s students join the program,” commented outgoing KCJA president Mark Edelman. “Future of Jazz has grown to four of the best of jazz students programs in our Area, including the JCCC unit.

Future of Jazz continues its Wednesday concerts on December 14 with a visit from UMKC’s Jazz Ensemble. Carl Allen and Marcus Lewis head up those groups. The December show coincides with the Jazz Ambassador’s annual meeting, which will begin at 6pm in Johnnie’s, prior to the 7-9 show.

Vote for your favorite KC Jazz musicians right now!

“This is our second-year highlighting Kansas City’s favorite jazz musicians, as determined

by local jazz fans themselves,” explained KC Jazz Ambassadors board member Linda McShann.

“It’s a chance for jazz lovers to recognize their favorites in a whole host of categories.”

Voting will continue until November 30, 2022. KC’s favorites jazz musicians will be announced on Wednesday, December 14th between sets at Johnnie’s Jazz Club, 14th and Main in Downtown KC, MO.
